Yousuf always knew his dream course was architecture, and an Orcadia Foundation Scholarship helped him make it a reality at RMIT.
I love everything about architecture, and studying at one of the best schools in Melbourne."
Yousuf moved to Australia from Afghanistan in 2007 and credits the scholarship with helping to cover the initial costs of starting university. Orcadia Foundation Scholarships provide assistance to migrant students to enter higher education.
“The Orcadia Foundation Scholarship was a massive help for me. It helped with the cost of living in the city, [buying] books and the materials that I needed to buy for making models - all things that support my studies“, Yousuf says.
For Yousuf, there was no question that RMIT’s School of Architecture and Design was the school for him. “I love everything about architecture, and studying at one of the best schools in Melbourne. I did a lot of research, because architecture was my dream course, and chose to study at RMIT because I knew it was one of the best for architecture and design, and is a global university with a good reputation around the world.“
Yousuf wanted to supplement his studies with valuable work experience, so applied for a Travel Equity Scholarship to help him study abroad. “Without this scholarship I wouldn’t have been able to travel to Vienna for the Alessi MUTANTS Architecture Study Tour“, he says. The Alessi MUTANTS program is a 4-week intensive course in emergent digital directions within object and architectural design.
Yousuf credits the scholarships for changing his life and allowing him to pursue his dream career. “Without the scholarship I would not have been able to continue my studies, I would have to find another way and do my studies part time and find a job“ he says.
The Orcadia Foundation Scholarship is provided to make the lives of migrant students less of a struggle, made available by the generous support of the Orcadia Foundation.
