Building Capacity for a Sustainable Future involves a range of projects aimed at identifying the most effective means of embedding sustainability curriculum in all undergraduate programs.
Formerly Beyond Leather Patches (BELP): Sustainability Education in Higher Education, this is an Australian Research Council Linkage Project giving the “Sustainability Education” research team at RMIT opportunities to build a curriculum model which enables, and privileges, the development of certain capabilities strongly correlated with effective sustainability decision making.
The research team regularly convenes higher education communities of practice (CoP) sessions at both the university and state level.
The CoP model allows staff from all disciplines and fields to determine their own level of engagement with sustainability in a collegial and expansive environment.
The CoP model has been significant in fostering understanding of the ways the sustainability project might reach and enfranchise the wide range of disciplines within university settings.
In addition, a core group of sustainability scholars continues to develop an interest in key graduate attributes for sustainability.
