This research investigated the effect of wall thermal mass on building thermal performance.
The research deployed an experimental programme using side-by-side test buildings, which were identical apart from the amount of thermal mass in their walls. This research provided experimental evidence of the effect of thermal mass on building energy use and thermal comfort in temperate climates. The research also examined the effect of glazing area and other design factors on the effectiveness of wall thermal mass.
