Opening 2017, with works starting mid-2015 on the Swanston Street frontage, a new series of laneways criss-cross the centre of the City campus making it a university hub with multiple entrances, open-air terraces and elevated gardens.
This will give students, academics, staff and visitors an urban experience, with spaces for learning, amenities and relaxation so they experience the best kind of academic environment.
Introducing the New Academic Street
This ‘New Academic Street’ is part of a new series of laneways and arcades, which will criss-cross the centre of the RMIT City campus.
New lanes will enable a see-through and connecting view between Swanston and Bowen Streets
The RMIT City campus will literally go green, with a scattering of gardens throughout.
Students will be able to read, study and enjoy natural sunlight and air, while using the collection.
Reinvigorating aged buildings with natural ventilation, temperature control and sunlight.
Facilities will include film and TV studios, outside broadcast, big projection opportunities and telepresence.
The project will measure the sustainable attributes of interior fitout, creating engaging and productive spaces with a low environmental impact.

Flexible ‘pop-ups’ will provide students, alumni and industry partners with an opportunity to offer new products and services.
