This is a School that looks to the future while valuing its traditions.
Art has been taught at RMIT since 1887. This School has a lineage of outstanding practices in art as well as leading edge engagements with the theories and histories of art, culture and society. It is a place for creativity and innovation; a site where experimentation is possible; a community of supportive educators who know the value of art in our communities and cultures.
Above all, the education at RMIT School of Art values your ideas and your ways of working. You will be recognised for your creativity and the directions you pursue. The School of Art specialises in the education of practicing artists; it values diversity, mobility and excellent practice. The School has the advantage of a Dual-Sector University with TAFE and Higher Education working together to mutual benefit and advantage. Hence our programmes range from Foundation to Diploma Visual Arts (TAFE), and in Higher Education, BA Fine Art, MFA, MA Art Public Space, MA by Research, Doctor of Fine Art and Doctor of Philosophy. Koori art is one of the strengths at the School with the Koori artists meeting at Bundoora as a community and supportive space.
Students, graduates and staff come from near and far to study the practice of art and its theories and histories, to become creative and intelligent practitioners, and to build links to the art community locally, regionally and globally. You could be part of this exciting place.
