Liaison Librarians are experts in the literature of research areas covered at RMIT University. We encourage you as a postgraduate student to make an appointment early in your research project to meet your Liaison Librarian to discuss:
- effective search strategies for your research topic
- key resources for your research topic, including specialist, citation, and theses databases
- utilising the advanced features of databases and platforms in your subject area
- relevant library services such as document delivery and reciprocal borrowing
- managing citations with the Endnote software program
- keeping up-to-date with new research in your field

Resources
The catalogue and databases can be accessed in the Library and from home 24 hours a day. There are over 330 databases to choose from. There is also a growing collection of e-books available. Accessing and using these resources is a vital component of postgraduate research. Some major databases of particular interest to postgraduate students include Web of Science, Science Direct and ProQuest. Access is provided through the Search It page. Information on remote access to Library online information resources is provided.

Planning and conducting a literature review
Planning and carrying out a comprehensive and thorough Literature Review is a very important part of many postgraduate students work. Information is provided on how to conduct a Literature Review so that you can make the most effective and efficient use of your time.
Information skills sessions
It is essential that, as a postgraduate student, you gain and maintain information literacy skills. Liaison Librarians are expert in providing tailored information sessions on locating and evaluating information. Topic specific and generic classes are run for postgraduate students and assistance can be provided for both individuals and groups.
