Reasonable adjustments— changes to your assessment and study conditions

Reasonable adjustments are changes that are made to your assessment and study conditions so that reasonable steps are taken to ensure that your disability or long term illness does not affect your academic performance.

During exams, depending on your disability and/or medical condition, this may mean:

  • additional writing or reading time
  • rest breaks
  • ergonomic furniture
  • someone to write and/or read for you
  • your exam paper in a different format
  • the use of a computer
  • a private room to sit the exam.

Other study adjustments may include:

  • the provision of specific equipment such as assistive technology
  • course materials in other formats
  • note takers and other enabling assistance such as Auslan interpreters.

Course materials in other formats

We can provide your course materials in another format if you have trouble reading printed material. Most alternative formats are in electronic form.

Hint: please provide us with a list of the subjects you are enrolled in as soon as possible so we can get started with converting your course materials into the format you need.

Enabling staff

Enabling staff are people that can work with you in lectures, tutorials, seminars, practical sessions and exams.

These staff can:

  • take notes for you
  • interpret for you using Auslan
  • assist you to get the most out of your time in class.

Please note: enabling staff do not provide tutoring.
