Recruitment Process

To ensure a clear understanding of the RMIT recruitment process, please see the below steps that RMIT adheres to for each individual position:

Application and Short listing Stage

All available positions at RMIT University are advertised on the RMIT University website. Once your application via our Career Search page for a relevant position has been received by the Recruitment Unit, you will receive an automated response advising you of this.

Prior to submitting your application, please ensure all necessary information is attached (Resume/CV, cover letter, Key Selection Criteria (if requested)). Please also ensure that you have noted the closing date of the advert and submit your application prior to this date.

Interviews

If your application meets the selection criteria, you will be invited to attend an interview with a panel, with approx three to four members. The interview format will be comprised of behavioural and technical questions, and it is recommended that interviewees prepare for these questions by preparing some real-life examples.

There is the opportunity in all interviews at RMIT for interviewees to ask questions of the hiring panel; please do not hesitate to prepare questions for the panel prior to your interview.

Depending on the position and the hiring panel, there will sometimes be a follow up interview, but this is at the discretion of the individual hiring area.

Reference Checks

If successful throughout the interview stage, the Recruitment Unit and/or hiring manager will then complete two work related reference checks. RMIT will contact you prior to calling your referees to ensure that you are happy for us to contact them to ask questions regarding your work performance.

Offer Stage

Once short listing and interviews have taken place, and reference checks have been conducted, if successful, you will then be extended a verbal offer of employment. A formal, binding contract will be created, and a time will be arranged for you to come and meet with a Recruitment Coordinator to sign your contract and discuss any queries you may have. If you are unable to meet with a member of the Recruitment Unit, your contract will be sent to you.
