Katinka Triumphs in lingerie design competition

RMIT University Fashion Design student, Katinka Poole, has won the Australian National Final of the Triumph Inspiration Award for outstanding lingerie design.

She will now travel to Milan for the international final.

Twelve finalists from across Australia showcased their lingerie designs – all relating to the theme “Icons” – at Sydney’s exclusive ivy bar.

Ms Poole’s design, “Harbour Mirage”, was deemed the most inspirational by judges Madison Fashion Director Fiona Lane, Triumph Australia Product Development Manager Shirley Jones and Sydney fashion journalist Melissa Hoyer.

She said: “I’m so excited to have won this award among such strong competition.

“Travelling to Milan for the international final is such an amazing opportunity for someone starting out in their fashion design career – I can’t wait to see the other entries at the international show.”

Second place was awarded to another fourth-year RMIT Fashion Design student, Romayne Scott, with her showpiece “The Aviator”, a tribute to Howard Hughes.

Denise Sprynskyj, fourth year co-ordinator for Fashion in the School of Architecture and Design, said: “The students undertook this project with a limited knowledge of lingerie construction and have managed to learn intricate techniques as well as creating some innovative responses to the brief ‘Icons’.

“Katinka has managed to create an outfit that takes the popular icons of Sydney and transform them into a sophisticated interpretation of contemporary lingerie.”
