Daniel wins Prime Minister’s Award
Former year 12 student Daniel Donlic, from Glenroy, has won two prizes for his achievements while undertaking a vocational program at RMIT University.
Mr Donlic won a 2009 Australian Vocational Student Prize and a Prime Minister’s Award for Skills Excellence in School, receiving $2,000 for each.
He undertook a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) through the School of Engineering TAFE while completing VCE at Penola Catholic College in Broadmeadows.
He has now articulated to the Diploma of Construction program.
Mr Donlic said studying at RMIT had confirmed his interest in a career in construction.
“Coming to RMIT while at school helped me advance my studies and maintained my dedication throughout the year.
“Having one day per week in an adult learning environment encouraged me to take my studies seriously.
“The ‘real life’ experience and ‘learning by doing’ assisted me with linking learning and employment opportunities.”
Elise Toomey, VET in Schools Manager in RMIT’s Office of Director TAFE, who nominated Mr Donlic for the awards, congratulated him on his achievement.
“He is driven by his passion for the construction industry and has a remarkable mature and smart head on his shoulders.
“He realises this is his time in life to shine and that what he does today will have a massive impact on his future.
“Daniel unwittingly was the leader of the class and his peers both in his academic abilities and in his behaviour and maturity.”
