RMIT University has begun to sign up candidates for traineeships in Interactive Digital Media at Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels, as part of a project that aims to fill Victoria’s digital skills gap.
Supported by the Victorian Government and in conjunction with SkillsHub and 370 Group, the Game Plan project aims to service the growing demand for interactive and digital media skills in all sectors of the workforce.
Game Plan assists Victoria’s interactive media, games and design industries by connecting local businesses with funded training opportunities, including trainee placements.
Kieran Doolan, Interactive Digital Media Traineeship Supervisor at RMIT’s School of Media and Communication, said the first trainee to join the project, Ben Oliver, was recently enrolled at ASPECT Studios in Collingwood, a landscape architecture and urban design firm.
"The traineeship is the perfect opportunity for Ben to further develop and refine his skills, while providing an opportunity for ASPECT to access Victorian Government funding to support his learning," Mr Doolan said.
"As teaching staff at the School of Media and Communication, we’re thrilled to be involved with Ben's training and looking forward to working with ASPECT Studios’ Melbourne staff."
Mr Doolan said while Game Plan was initially focused on the screen-based media and games industries, the sign-up of a trainee from a landscape architecture firm demonstrated the requirement for interactive and digital media skills in a large variety of workplaces.
"With skills such as digital imaging, design and interactive authoring in strong demand, RMIT finds itself uniquely positioned to deliver innovative and flexible traineeships via the Game Plan project," he said.
ASPECT Studios is a leading design firm specialising in landscape architecture, urban design and digital media, with studios in Melbourne, Sydney and Shanghai.
