Landlords wanted for housing research project

Landlords across the state have the chance to share their experiences and help shape rental policies through a Victorian-first survey, conducted by RMIT University’s Centre for Design and the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI).

The Victorian Residential Landlords Survey, part of a study commissioned by the Victorian Government, will help inform future policy relating to rental properties.

Director of the Centre for Design, Professor Ralph Horne, said the online survey of landlords was the first of its kind in Victoria.

"This project aims to take a detailed look at how landlords approach property maintenance and upgrading," Professor Horne said.

"Through the survey, landlords have a unique opportunity to share their experiences and contribute to the decision-making process.

"We’re trying to understand where landlords are coming from, the challenges they face and the opportunities, so we can work out the best strategies to shape housing policy into the future."

All landlords who complete the survey are eligible to enter a prize draw but time is running out, with the survey closing on 28 May. Prizes will be drawn on 4 June.

"There has been a great response to the survey so far, with hundreds of landlords from around Victoria taking part," Professor Horne said.

"We want to hear from as many landlords as possible, so we hope to see hundreds more getting involved before the survey closes at the end of this month."

Based in RMIT’s School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning, the Centre for Design is internationally recognised for innovative research, consulting and capacity building in the area of sustainability and design.

The AHURI Research Centre is a national organisation based at RMIT specialising in housing and urban research and policy, with a multidisciplinary focus that draws on skills from a range of economic, social, environmental and cultural disciplines.
