An exhibition of projects by RMIT University fashion students explores the process of making through found garments and collage, as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week's City Series.

Design: Emma Bosley
Supported by RMIT's School of Architecture and Design Research Fund, the exhibition runs from 1 to 6 September.
Students from the S!X studio in the second and third year Bachelor of Design (Fashion) program have responded to the S!X methodology, using a mixture of found garments and collaging these with pattern-cutting and printing techniques.
Lecturer and studio leader, Denise Sprynskyj, said students unpicked found garments and used existing elements to reconstruct and reconfigure into a new design.
"The process of deconstruction reveals and highlights hidden details of the recycled garment," she said.
Student Emma Bosley said: "The ideology for me behind the studio, Making the Unfinished, is to transform found or made garments from a stereotypical 'finished' or structured silhouette to something more abstract or contemporary."
Student Jovana Margetic said: "Breaking down components of fashion and reassembling them is what deconstructionist designers are all about.
"In order to experiment with deconstructing, I believe we need to explore the old structure."
