Student Profile: Damien Crommie

Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) student and winner of the School of Accounting and Law Centenary Scholarship 2004

“My 12 month co-operative education placement exposed me to many facets of the finance world, and helped me to gain an insight into how each, very different, business segment is run. I have run training sessions, and improved my communication, plus had first hand experience in portfolio management, superannuation, taxation, estate planning and bookkeeping.

With my previous experience of creating a company I was able to understand concepts quickly because of my direct experience. Realising how I might apply new theories in other workplaces, I embraced new concepts with increased vigour.

My time at Grant Thornton has allowed me to develop a focused interest in the management of investment portfolios. To establish myself in this segment and become more competent in the wide range of skills required, I will study further, and continue to work with Grant Thornton while I finish my studies. I’m aiming to progress to a management role within the next five years.”

School of Accounting and Law Centenary Scholarship is awarded annually to the student in the Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) who has shown the most promise for the future at the end of the Co-operative Education Year.
