The Business TAFE School currently offers a number of academic programs associated with the list of disciplines below. Enquiries can be directed to the Coordinator and/or Administrator for a given program, or you can use the Program Enquiry Form for all general program enquiries.

Accounting

Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting)
You will develop your understanding of core business practices in the financial services industry.

Diploma of Accounting
You will further develop your knowledge of preparing, implementing and controlling financial budgets, forecasts, reports and procedures.

Advanced Diploma of Accounting
The Advanced Diploma in Accounting extends into more specialised accounting areas with additional compulsory specialist courses.

Advertising

Certificate IV in Advertising
In the certificate IV you learn about conducting, analysing and presenting market research, as well as consumer behaviour and profiling a target audience.

Diploma of Advertising
You will further develop your knowledge of the many facets of advertising, such as the marketing concept, managing budgets and financial plans, media types and media planning, electronic advertisement creation and the presentation of campaigns.

Advanced Diploma of Advertising
You will develop comprehensive knowledge and skills in providing leadership, creating advertising briefs, and developing and executing marketing communication plans, implementing business plans and advertising campaigns and then evaluating their effectiveness.

Business

Associate Degree in Business
Focuses on core business studies and specialised courses in management so you can develop capabilities, and relate your existing skills and experience to the needs of business and organisations.

Business Administration

Certificate IV in Business Administration
Through the certificate IV, you will develop skills in more complex administrative practices, including organising business travel and meetings.

Diploma of Business Administration
You will develop a range of skills, including the ability to manage meetings, payroll and work priorities.

Commerce

Diploma of Commerce (International students only)
The RMIT Diploma of Commerce provides an introduction to general business studies and will allow you to articulate in any one of RMIT’s undergraduate business programs.

Conveyancing

Diploma of Financial Services (Conveyancing)
Conveyancing provides specific education for people who wish to pursue a career as a conveyancer.

Finance

Certificate IV in Banking Services
Financial and banking services are concerned with the effective management of money. The program is developed in conjunction with the banking and finance industries to create highly-specialised graduates.

Diploma of Financial Planning
This diploma is suited to people seeking employment in financial institutions or the financial services industry. It includes courses that meet skills and knowledge requirements set by ASIC’s Regulatory Guide 146 (RG146)—Tier 1.

Information Technology

Diploma of Information Technology (General)
You will learn about networks—local, wide area and complex—and how to install and configure them, how to manage network protocols, how to identify and resolve network problems.

International Business/Trade

Certificate IV in International Trade
International business provides you with an understanding of the complex world of international trade: the exchange of goods and services between countries.

Diploma of Business (International Business)
The program reflects ongoing industry input to provide the knowledge, training and vocational skills necessary to effectively compete in all sectors of international business at an operational and middle-management level.

Advanced Diploma of International Business
The Advanced Diploma follows on from Certificate and Diploma studies, and develops a deeper understanding of marketing, international trade and economics, importing and exporting and transport and logistics.

Legal Practice

Diploma of Legal Services
This is a customised and flexible delivery study option focused on developing skills and knowledge required to pursue a career as a law clerk, paralegal or legal support officer. The program is particularly appropriate for people who are currently employed in the legal sector and wish to further develop their career opportunities.

Advanced Diploma of Legal Practice
This program provides you with the essential knowledge and skills to pursue a career as a law clerk, paralegal or similar occupation in legal practice. Full-time students take part in a work placement.

Associate Degree in Legal Practice (Paralegal)
This full-time program is focused on developing high level legal skills for paralegals, and to develop skills required to apply business practices in the legal industry. Includes simulated case studies, work-relevant role plays and a work placement.

Logistics

Diploma of Logistics
The Diploma of Logistics follows on from the Certificate IV in International Trade. Diploma studies will focus on logistics and operations management, international freight transfer including import/export, advanced international finance and economic forecasting, logistics business planning and software used to support logistics.

Management

Certificate IV in Frontline Management
The Frontline management program is suitable for people who have limited workplace experience and would like to increase their understanding of the skills and knowledge to become an effective manager in a range of organisational settings.

Diploma of Management
The part-time program is suited to people currently working who are engaged in a management role, or wish to develop skills in this area, who may have employment history but without a formal supervision or management qualification. The full-time program includes units from the Certificate IV in Frontline Management and is suitable for people who have limited workplace experience who would like to increase their understanding of the skills and knowledge to become an effective Manager in a range of organisational settings.

Marketing

Certificate IV in Marketing
The Certificate IV in Marketing provides you with relevant business experience with an introduction to marketing fundamentals to supplement your existing commercial knowledge of business practice.

Diploma of Marketing
Marketing involves working with, and gaining the cooperation of people from specialist areas such as technical experts, production managers, accountants and advertising agents, so the ability to communicate effectively with people with diverse technical skills and knowledge is essential.

Advanced Diploma of Marketing
The advanced diploma is designed for students with no previous experience and who wish to pursue a career in marketing, sales, sales management and market research.

Public Relations

Diploma of Business (Public Relations)
You will learn how to conduct market research, analyse consumer behaviour for specific markets, and implement and monitor marketing activities as you develop your knowledge of the public relations industry.

Advanced Diploma of Business (Public Relations)
You will further develop your IT and general communication skills to create web pages with multimedia, develop an advertising campaign, write strategic PR documents, manage fundraising and sponsorships, and develop crisis management plans.

Short courses / Workplace training

Advertising, Marketing and PR – Digital and Social Media
Designed for advertising practitioners, you will be introduced to the digital/social media environment and how to build a successful communication and brand strategy by integrating digital and social media into an advertising campaign.

BAS Agent Registration
This program is one of the minimum educational qualifications required for practitioners seeking registration as BAS Agents under the TAX Agents Services Act 2009.

Business Networking
Networking is the art of developing mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues and others to ensure efficient teamwork, business activity and individual career development. Through this course, learn the tools for successful business networking.

Coaching / Mentoring and Training Techniques 
Learn how to effectively conduct and evaluate individual and group-based training in the workplace. Workshops are designed to be interactive and to offer lots of opportunities to practice your own skills and to interact.

Communication for PR, Advertising and Marketing Leaders
A targeted program for supervisors, managers and executives working in PR, advertising and marketing to improve their communication strategy. This includes analysing target audiences, developing strategic communications plans and selecting appropriate communication tools and channels.

Corporate Governance – Introduction
Tailored for aspiring or current company directors, senior officers and company secretaries who need a basic understanding of their duties and responsibilities as prescribed by the Corporations Act 2001 and common law.

Customer Service Excellence
Good service is about getting all the parts right in a series of activities and processes. Learn about the business and human side of customer service.

Financial Management
Learn how to view and read critical data in financial reports, structure reports to provide the data you need for managing day-to-day operations and future needs, and build control and knowledge of financial responsibilities into an operational plan. Successful completion leads to credit toward the Diploma of Management.

GST / BAS Preparation - Basic
This program is one of the minimum educational qualifications required for practitioners seeking registration as BAS Agents under the TAX Agents Services Act 2009.

Keyboarding Skills
Improve your speed and accuracy using the keyboard. Increase your work output and efficiency. Successful completion leads to credit toward the Certificate IIIin Business Administration or IV in Business Administration.

Logistics - Modern Metrics for the Supply Chain Professional
Developed in conjunction with industry, this course is tailored for exporters, importers and supply chain staff. Also suitable for staff involved in manufacturing, financial performance and customer satisfaction functions across a range of industries.

Management – Recruit and Manage Staff
Suited to anyone in a management role in a small or large business or not for profit organisation. Focuses on contemporary strategies to support the recruitment, selection and management of human capital as well as legal considerations. Successful completion leads to credit toward the Diploma of Management.

Microsoft Excel – Introduction 
Develop the skills you need to correctly operate spreadsheet applications and perform basic operations using Microsoft Excel.

Microsoft Excel – Intermediate 
Develop advanced skills using Excel spreadsheets for performing simple to complex calculations.

Microsoft Excel - Advanced
This advanced course is suitable if you need to understand pivot tables, insert and update connections to external data or manage data in Microsoft Excel.

Online Marketing - Build Your Business
In a world of increasing online presence, this short course has been developed to demystify the jargon and elements of online marketing. Understand the "how to" of developing effective online marketing techniques to build your business.

Presentation Excellence
Get your message across to others. Learn how to effectively present information using a variety of techniques to suit a range of audiences and purposes.

Project Management Essentials
The ability to manage projects and build expertise in the various areas of project management is an increasingly important skill for both employees and managerial staff to have. Through this course, you can become an effective contributor to the process of continuous improvement in your organisation.

Project and Risk Management Essentials
Build familiarity with the terminology and tools of contemporary project management. You will learn how to scope a project, develop timelines and milestones to control and communicate project outcomes, and how to build in risk analysis, contingency planning and sustainability. Successful completion leads to credit toward the Diploma of Management.

Project Management – Certificate IV
Designed for people new to, or with limited experience in project management. Incorporates methodology around processes of initiating, planning, executing, controlling/monitoring and closing a project.

RG146 Financial Compliance
The Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC), Regulatory Guide 146, sets out minimum training and education standards for people providing financial product advice to clients.

Sales Diagnostics / Strategic Selling
Specifically designed for anyone selling high dollar value solutions, or for anyone selling in complex environments, learn how to generate better sales revenues and higher profit margins, and ultimately create more loyal and satisfied customers.

Small Business - Developing and Managing Your Small Business
Do you currently run, or want to run a small business? This course will take you through the steps to maximise organisational growth and success.

Structured Query Language (SQL)
A short course aimed to develop your skills in Structured Query Language to create, manipulate and retrieve data to an intermediate level.

Sustainability - Lean Office (Introduction)
An industry focused program has been developed in conjunction with industry, to ensure relevance and that participants can be of immediate value to individual workplaces. This short course is aimed at reducing waste and developing sustainable and streamlined work practices.

Sustainability - Lean Office Management (Advanced)
An industry focused program developed in conjunction with industry, to ensure relevance. This course is targeted to staff and supervisors working in business administration and office support roles in an organisation.

Web – Dynamic Websites with PHP and MySQL
Covers the basics of the PHP language and how it can be used to create a customised browsing experience for web users. Learn how to write, upload, test and debug the PHP files and integrate with MySQL databases.

Traineeships

Certificate III in Business Administration - Traineeship
The certificate III is designed for administrators, clerks, personal assistants, secretaries and all office-based staff in any industry.

Certificate IV in Business Administration - Traineeship
The certificate IV is designed for people already employed as an administrator, clerk, manager, personal assistant or other office-based occupation.

Certificate IV in Frontline Management - Traineeship
The frontline management program is flexibly delivered and workplace-based, suitable for participants employed in private or public sector organisations.

Certificate III in Information Technology- Traineeship
The Certificate III in IT combines on-the-job training, face-to-face classroom theory-based subjects and hands-on practical-based workshops. It is suited to people who want to gain introductory knowledge in IT, including business software use, trouble-shooting, and introductory networking skills.

Foundation Studies

Foundation Studies – Business (International students only)
The Business Stream aims to provide students with a wide range of academic skills that will enable them to move successfully in to further study and then careers in professional business fields. The focus is on developing written and oral presentation skills as well as developing skills in research, report writing and critical analysis.
