
This elective course is for postgraduate students only
An opportunity to study South East Asian business practices and the challenge of developing economics in a truly cross-cultural context. This course brings together MBA (Executive) and masters students from Melbourne, OUA and Vietnam.
The course will be conducted from Wednesday 27 June – Tuesday 3 July 2012. Students must be in Ho Chi Minh City and ready to attend classes at 9.00am Wednesday 27 June. Students must attend all classes unless ill, in which case they must obtain a medical certificate as evidence of their illness. Students cannot leave until the completion of classes late Tuesday 3 July 2012.

BUSM 4119 Asian Management Issues
You will need to make your own travel arrangements to arrive at Ho Chi Minh. Students are required to meet RMIT staff in the Rex Hotel Lobby on Tuesday 26 June 2012 at 5.00 pm for a brief meeting followed by a class dinner.
QANTAS has flights to Ho Chi Minh from approximately $AUD 1430 to $AUD 1792. This is just an indicator, more economical fares are available through other carriers.

Travel insurance is essential for all students participating in the study intensive.
No student will be allowed to participate in the study intensive without travel insurance. Students are advised to discuss their individual travel insurance needs with their travel agent at the time of booking flights.
To foster a collegial atmosphere, students are required to stay at one of the RMIT nominated hotels.
Students are to be notified by course administrator.
A bus will pick you up each morning from the Rex Hotel and drop you back to the Rex Hotel after class.
Partners are welcome to attend but cannot participate in the academic program. Anyone who is planning to travel with a partner must inform the organisers so that the appropriate accommodation can be organised.
Whilst we strongly advise you to consult with your financial advisor it is our understanding that for postgraduate students who are not using FEE HELP, the course fee, travel, accommodation, meals and incidentals should be tax deductible expense. If you are using FEE HELP, then only the travel related expenses are tax deductible.
Classes are held at the RMIT Ho Chi Minh campus, located 30 minutes from the centre of town. All students will be required on the first day to meet in the Rex Hotel lobby at 8.30am for departure to the campus by bus.

Whilst some of the after class time will be dedicated to study and group work, there will be opportunities to explore Ho Chi Minh restaurants and night life as a group with the RMIT Vietnam staff and students.
RMIT Vietnam campus staff advises that afternoon showers can be expected (wet season), hot and humid.

On-campus students should enrol online into the course BUSM 4119 - Asian Management Issues. OUA students should enrol online via Open Universities Australia into the course OMBA500 - Contemporary Issues in International Management.
In the event that the course becomes oversubscribed, online enrolments will be revised and places in this course will be offered based on academic merit and program progression.

Students who withdraw from the program after 25 May 2012, after accepting a place may incur penalties.
Offers will be made to students who satisfy the university criteria which broadly speaking requires students to be making satisfactory progress in their degree. However, students in the first year of their program should submit a resume in place of an academic transcript. The Academic Advisors will consider all applications and make offers on the basis of student capability to undertake the course. In the event that a destination is oversubscribed, a grade based criteria may apply. Upon receiving an offer of a place, you will have one week to accept your place in the course.
You will be notified by email whether you have been accepted or not. Applicants will be informed on the outcome of their application 48 hours after submitting their application. You are then expected to attend the first pre-departure class prior to departing for Vietnam on Tuesday 29 May 2012.
