BBA Honours Homepage |Fees and Application|Program Structure|Selection Criteria and Articulation >>>What is the Honours Year Program? The School of Management offers an Honours year program in the areas of Business Administration, Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management to be undertaken after successful completion of a relevant undergraduate program. The Honours program provides Honours students with access to more advanced coursework in the discipline areas, material in research methods and the preparation steps for conducting research, and the undertaking of an industry research thesis that will give students the opportunities to develop your research skills in solving real world problems. The industry research thesis comprises 75 percent of the Honours Program. As Honours students, you will be enrolled in a School based program, but have access to industry partners who will provide you with guidance and supervision on your research topic. Program duration: Full time – 1 year Why Do Honours? The key differentiation is the industry research thesis, which involves you applying your research skills to solve a management and/or organizational problem while being jointly supervised by an academic of RMIT and an industry partner. This focus on industry research in the Honours program differentiates the current program from Honours program in other universities, which take a more theoretical approach. Completing an Honours program will open up a set of options that are not available to regular undergraduates. It is expected that graduates will gain employment across a wide range of industry and government sectors. Other perceived benefits of doing the Honours degree include an easy transition between undergraduate and postgraduate work. It is a necessary prerequisite in most universities for admission to candidature in masters and PhD degrees by research. Success in Honours is also the main criterion used in judging applications for the Commonwealth's Australian Postgraduate Awards. As an induction into research, the Honours program provides an opportunity for focusing on business and management theory in a more sophisticated and concentrated way than is possible in undergraduate courses, and aims to develop the particular research skills and methods appropriate to the individual student's needs. Through the industry research thesis, students will apply many of the skills acquired during both the undergraduate degree and the first part of the Honours program. The benefit is to gain experience in discovery, critical analysis, problem-solving and interpretation preparatory to taking on the demands of a longer, more sustained project such as the postgraduate dissertation. |
