BCom Homepage | Program Details | Career Prospects | Program Structure | Frequently Asked Questions >>>This program is only available at the RMIT Bairnsdale Campus >>>The Bachelor of Commerce provides a broad range of business skills and knowledge instead of highly specialised training. The program develops both general and specific capabilities through action learning to meet current and future expectations of employers.By applying real-world knowledge, the program is aimed at accelerating business careers. The Bachelor of Commerce has been designed in consultation with industry groups and companies to ensure that up-to-date business concepts and applications are used throughout the program. Work Integrated LearningIncreasingly employers are demanding not just graduates with degrees, but graduates with the experience and capability to add value to the organisation. The Bachelor of Commerce integrates work and learning in a way that graduates the competitive edge in seeking employment. All of the courses in the program combine and integrate learning and its professional workplace application. In some courses this may take the form of industry examples or work-based assignments. In others it may be a business simulation or an industry project where the student works with industry professionals in solving a real-world business problem. There is also a Work Integrated Learning stream consisting of one key course in each semester that especially focuses on integrating work and learning. In each of these courses students integrate learning from all the concurrent studies and use it to address various business situations in a way that asks them to act like a business professional. The Work Integrated Learning approach means that our students are prepared for the world of work in all its complexity. Business MentorsStudents will be supported in their Work Integrated Learning by a Business Mentor. This active business professional will provide an essential connection between the student, the student’s learning and current business practice. Whilst students are ultimately responsible for arranging their own Business Mentor, RMIT Business provides mentor training programs and liaises extensively with industry and the business community to assist students in obtaining a Business Mentor. Capability-Driven CurriculumThe Bachelor of Commerce has been designed to develop graduate capability outcomes. This is an innovative approach to curriculum development where courses are developed to enhance students’ general capabilities (problem solving, communication, reflective practice) and specific knowledge capabilities that graduates will require if they are to meet the current and future needs and expectations of society and the workplace.Traditionally curriculum development focuses on content input rather than capability output. The program provides a range of learning situations designed to progressively develop business knowledge and generic capabilities. Delivery ModeThe program is available for study in both part time and full time mode. The Bachelor of Commerce program at Bairnsdale is delivered online with education supported by face-to-face classes. |
