Program Description
The program aimsto develop leadership qualities and capabilities, through study, action, and reflection – and by providing an environment in which participants can learn through other students and through interrogating their own practices. The MBL focuses specifically on leadership and management in terms of relationship management and is geared towards meeting the leadership and management challenges of the new millennium.
Program Objectives
This program reflects the following educational assumptions and principles:
- Action Learning - Development as a professional is achieved by combining professional knowledge with learning gained from engaging in action in organisational settings.
- New Challenges - Learning is enhanced when people are faced with new challenges in their work – such as a new project, job, task or set of problems.
- Peer Interaction and Collaboration in Learning - Learning is enriched through sustained interaction and consultation with people both within and outside one’s area of professional expertise.
- Locus of Control - Learning is a deeper and more permanent experience when the learner controls the choices about what needs to be learned and how the desired learning outcomes can be achieved.
- Applied Theory - Theory is a tool for developing greater insight into the issues that professionals face daily. Theory is not simply an end in itself.
- Learning to Learn - Data gathering, analysis, action (applied experimentation in one’s workplace), and reflection – these are core adult learning skills. Proficiency in these skills enhances sustained professional development and behavioural change.
