Professional development to enhance teaching and learning practice

The DSC Academic Development team offers a dynamic learning and teaching consultancy services tailored to meet your individual or group professional development needs. We understand that different staff will require different supports and interventions. Helping assess needs and then collaboratively design the most effective response is a crucial part of the service we offer.

In supporting professional development, the Academic Development team aims to:

  • foster a culture of continuous learning and development
  • build staff capability, expertise and knowledge
  • create an environment where the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching is nurtured and supported
  • encourage and support innovation and risk taking in learning
  • provide leadership in developing effective communities of practice and enquiry
  • foster and acknowledge excellence in teaching
  • enable the adoption of new practices

Simply contact your school’s Learning and Teaching liaison person to discuss your issue. Following are examples of how we can assist:

  • One on one support, mentoring or coaching
  • Tailored workshops designed to meet specific professional development needs
  • Establish and support communities of practice
  • Broker and facilitate professional conversations with colleagues
  • Data gathering and analysis for specific purposes e.g. surveys, focus groups, interviews
  • Link and refer to appropriate courses, training and expertise both internally and externally
  • Support SOLT initiatives.
  • Support Teaching Award applications (2008 Teaching Awards)

Speak with your Learning and Teaching Liaison person to discuss your learning needs and we will work with you on the best approach. We may tailor a development program specifically for you or we may link you to existing workshops and/or resources.

Learning and Teaching network meetings

These meetings offer Learning &Teaching chairs and directors and other invited guests the opportunity to discuss and share information regarding relevant and topical L&T issues. The meetings occur about six times per year and aim to provide a “community of practice” for knowledge sharing and debate. Contact Barbara Russell (53226) for more information or if you would like to be involved. See Academic Development and Student Committee (AD&SC) to view topics discussed.
