The Building Commission

The Building Commission is a statutory authority that oversees the building control system in Victoria.  BC ensure the safety, liveability and sustainability of our built environment. BC oversees building legislation, regulates building practices, advises Government, and provides services to industry and consumers.

The Commission aims to deliver:

    • Better safeguards for consumers 
    • Building industry transformation
    • Legislative reform.

The Building Commission works closely with four statutory bodies to provide industry leadership and regulate building quality. The associated bodies are the Building Advisory Council, Building Appeals Board, Building Practitioners Board and the Building Regulations Advisory Committee.

Amongst other functions, the Commission and four bodies, regulate the Victorian building industry and encourage sustainable and accessible building design, construction and use. BC also demonstrates industry leadership by promoting initiatives such as sustainability and accessibility, and continuing professional development for building practitioners.

The Land Management Corporation (SA)

The Land Management Corporation (LMC) is a State Government Corporation responsible for managing South Australia’s portfolio of land assets. The primary aim of the corporation is to provide social, economic and environmental benefits to all South Australians, by creating, facilitating and developing a range of land-based opportunities.

LMC activities include:

    • Releasing State Government owned land, facilitating sustainable industrial and residential development
    • Working with public, private and voluntary sectors to bring lasting social, economic and physical regeneration to existing communities
    • Assisting the State Government on strategic land and real estate issues
    • Disposing of surplus State Government land
    • Creating developments in partnership with the private sector or independently
    • Constructing, leasing or selling commercial and industrial properties of strategic importance to the State
    • Managing South Australia’s dedicated Technology Park
    • Providing advice and services to other State Government agencies on land-related matters.

VicUrban

VicUrban is the Victorian Government's sustainable urban development agency. One of Victoria's largest residential land developers, VicUrban works in partnership with the public and private sector and takes a leadership role in urban developments across metropolitan and regional Victoria. VicUrban has expanded its operations over the last three years to include medium density infill and developments in regional Victoria. VicUrban is a leading developer in terms of the number of residential projects in Victoria, underpinning a core policy to deliver housing outcomes in accordance with the Sustainable Community Rating, a framework for the design, implementation and delivery of projects in a sustainable way. As part of Vicurban’s commitment to delivering prosperous and successful communities in regional and metropolitan Victoria, the organisation has prioritised the improvement of housing affordability for Victorian’s, while putting environment at the forefront of the organisation’s work. Some of VicUrban’s initiatives in these areas include:

    • The Ownhome pilot, an equity share arrangement that uses a no interest second mortgage to reduce the purchase price of housing
    • The Sustainable and Affordable Home Initiative which aims to produce energy efficient homes that the average family can afford.
    • Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) -  The adoption of smart approaches to water management for many VicUrban projects.
