About

The Centre for Design’s Sustainable Built Environments team is a passionate, multi-disciplinary research and consultancy group working with Australian industry and government to progress/enhance sustainability in the built environment.

Our goal is to affect change and build capacity toward integrated triple-pillar sustainability, in:

  • Built form/environment
  • Spatial planning
  • Buildings
  • Social equity
  • Sustainable futures
  • Business environmental management
  • Policy
  • Construction materials

We provide applied research, consulting, and communication & training services in the forms of:

  • Design support
  • Capacity building
  • Policy advice
  • Strategy
  • Tools development
  • Training

For:

  • All levels of government;
  • Industry;
  • Peak industry bodies;
  • Non-government organisations; and
  • Educational organisations.

The SBE Team is a dynamic, enthusiastic and diverse collaboration. Among us, our team has a broad range of skills, professions, experience, and cultures, along with extensive networks across all levels of government, private, and educational sectors. This combination results in an effective mixture of broad-scale thinking and technical ability.

Our position within the university affords us the resources and networks of RMIT, and is testament to our credibility, rigour, and independence.
