Postgraduate research

Research programs

RMIT offers the following three research programs in the School of Art. Program guides provide full details including, program structures, entrance requirements and application information.

Information for candidates

Postgraduate students in the School of Art are supervised by experts in their field. Research students work in a creative community of practice and theory as they learn to work intelligently through material practices and critical reflection, and share ideas with other researchers in collaborative and supportive seminars and critiques.

Being part of the RMIT School of Art means they are part of a global outreach with opportunities for international debates and relationships.

Postgraduate research is carried out through practice-based projects as well as theoretical theses. Research and creative practice are of international standard in traditional and the latest of technological and innovative contemporary practices.

Application procedures

  • Check your eligibility: check the entrance requirements listed in the program guide of your chosen program
  • Select a potential supervisor: discuss your proposed research project with a potential supervisor. You need to identify a staff member with the appropriate research interests and qualifications from the School of Art Research Supervisors list. Then contact your potential supervisor (contact details are linked from the lists) and arrange to meet or to discuss your project. If the supervisor believes it to be a suitable project ask if they will supervise you and indicate this in your application.
