Product Design

Product Design can be defined as the idea generation, concept development, testing and manufacturing or implementation of a physical object or service. As a product designer, you will be equipped with the skills needed to bring products from conception to market. Product Design looks at all aspects of design including; aesthetics, technology, ergonomics, usability, stress analysis and materials engineering.

RMIT’s Product Design program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge that will enable you to pursue careers in the product design industry in a range of positions or to work as an independent designer in Australia or overseas.

Starting with a project brief, you will learn traditional product development techniques, as well as the latest industry tools and practices to formulate solutions to design problems. You will be guided through the process of developing new consumer products (such as electrical enclosures, toys or kitchenware) resolving practical, manufacturing and environmental issues.
