Students will undertake both theoretical classes, integrated into practical demonstrations and tasks. Skill development is progressive and based on the individual's ability to progress through set competencies. Assessment is based on the trainee’s ability to successfully complete the competency tasks which include Occupational Health and Safety practices, communication in the workplace, lithographic printing, producing digital prints, preparing printing machinery, developing basic design concepts, and developing relevant computer software skills.
Students are required to complete units of competency that make up the 21278VIC Certificate II in Furnishing Pre Apprentice (Cabinet Making) program. This consists of written question / answer activities from resource books, practical tasks, four practical furniture projects, Occupational Health & Safety tasks, and working effectively with others.

The program runs from early February through to mid-June in Semester1and end-July to end-December in Semester 2 (Monday to Thursday) from 9:00am to 4:30pm except for term breaks.

The ICGT Brunswick facilities are the most advanced in the country. The computer laboratories, software applications and supporting workflows, along with the traditional and digital printing technologies are the most contemporary and leading edge. With-out a doubt, the technology at the Centre is leading the industry in digital print and workflow connectivity through the processes.
RMIT Buildings 71 and 73 are simulated workshops (factory) providing the necessary environment to deliver programs for Certificate II to Certificate V within the LMF02 Furnishing Training Package.
