Textile Design and Development (TAFE)

RMIT Diploma of Textile Design and Development Graduate Exhibition

‘Unfold’ is an exhibition presenting creative and innovative approaches to weave, knit, textile printing, paper printing and experimental textiles by graduating students of RMIT University’s Diploma of Textile Design and Development.

Textile Design Industry Partnership Awards

The Textile Design degree show was held at the Telstra Corporate Building, foyer 242 Exhibition Street, Melbourne 21-28 November 2008.

Final year textile design students showcase their work to the community, prospective applicants and to industry partners. Major core projects from the final year of the program are shown at this exhibition where students can select work and curate their show with advice from staff. The event features an opening night where invited parents and friends view the work and see winners and finalists presented with design awards by Industry partners.

The challenges and opportunities that have been generated in 2008 demonstrate the enduring quality of textiles in a converging design and technology marketplace. The final year students have been involved in a variety of projects this year that have placed them at the forefront of new work experiences; collaboration with Architecture and Design students with Fibre Space; fashion and trend analysis with Australian Wool Innovation; Dreamweaver jacquard interior furnishing fabrics; contemporary bedlinen design with Dryen Australia and mentored workplace training with selected Australian TCF companies.

This is an opportunity for our prospective graduates to demonstrate their skills and capabilities that are embedded in a variety of key industry partnership projects and individual design research. Each student has a unique approach to a project and we ensure the work is exhibited to a high standard for program promotion. This year most of the work on display will be transferred to our website for interstate and overseas viewing. Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to take away a catalogue of the show highlighting student work, our major sponsors and application details.
