The combination of colour, pattern or motif, textured surface, three-dimensional function, form and sustainability are the key attributes for determining how textile designers begin the inventive process of creating textile design. Textiles are integrated 24/7 into our contemporary world; our working and recreational lifestyles, our homes, our cars and public transport and the fashion we wear. The textile designer is a vital contributor to the commercial success of many well-known brands from leading fashion and textile companies in Australia.
The School of Fashion and Textiles offers textile design programs at three academic levels with access to world-class resources based at the Brunswick campus. Our programs provide creative and imaginative learning, teaching and research environments for students wishing to develop a career path in a small or large manufacturing enterprise. Creating contemporary textiles for interior, automotive, fashion design or a design research interest are some the options we offer you as a student on our program.
As a textile design student, you will undertake a mix of industry-related and creative projects that develop a range of communication and global passport skills; including access to our international exchange program in year two. With the acquisition of technology, business and computer aided textile design skills you will be strongly positioned to compete for and succeed in a number of graduate employment areas. To prepare you for a working life, textile design students undertake work-integrated learning (WIL) with an associated Textile, Clothing and Footwear (TCF) company or creative mentor during the final year of the program.
