Our vision is to be a leading centre for applied scholarship and learning in the Asia Pacific Region, which contributes to a just and sustainable world.

School Mission

Our mission is to offer a range of programs at the vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate level with a focus in four areas:

  • Social work, youth work, community services and social policy;
  • Sustainability and urban planning, including housing;
  • Global and international studies, languages, translating and interpreting;
  • Criminal justice, legal and dispute studies and human rights.

We also undertake socially engaged scholarship and applied social research.

Through work integrated learning, research and outreach activities, we are connected with industry.

Key statistics

Located in the City Campus in the heart of Melbourne, we are one of the largest Schools at RMIT, with an annual operating budget exceeding $25m. The School is one of the University’s research powerhouses, generating more than $4m per year in research income. The School has over 200 staff and 4,000 students. We are home to 3 research centres and over 100 postgraduate research students.

Structure

The School is composed of 3 “clusters”: human services, community services and social policy; international, language and justice studies; and sustainability and urban planning. Each cluster is composed of related higher education and vocational disciplines and a research centre, and is headed by an Associate Dean.
