RMIT School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning – Certificate IV in Applied Languages (Japanese) graduates.

RMIT School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning – Certificates in Applied Language (Japanese) students enjoying the evening.
To celebrate the end of another successful year of studying Japanese, and in response to student suggestions, up to 80 students and 5 lecturers from all levels of our TAFE Certificate and Short Course Japanese language programs got together for an evening of eating, drinking and chatting (a lot in Japanese!).
This event was the first, of hopefully many more to come, encouraging friendship, networking, and a supportive and collaborative community of Japanese language learners at RMIT.
Delicious bentoo boxes were ordered from a city Japanese restaurant, accompanied by a range of Japanese beverages. After swapping stories on the highlights (and some challenges) of studying and balancing work commitments, opportunities to work and live in Japan, and local career updates, a small ceremony took place. 23 graduating students of Certificate IV were congratulated, these full-time students having completed 550 hours of study during 2007 and some part-time students having studied continuously for 3 years, attending 2 evening classes a week. They received a standing ovation.
Shin Odawara, a student from our sister university, Muroran Institute of Technology was present. Shin spent 2007 in Melbourne and throughout the year voluntarily assisted our full-time students in the classroom. He was able to view pictures of his hometown when several students gave entertaining PowerPoint presentations of their experiences on the 2007 Japan Study Tour, hosted by MuroranIT.
We look forward to more exciting student-led events in 2008 from the Japanese Language Program Page!
