Health and Safety Training for RMIT Staff in 2011

Staff in the School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning can engage in health and safety training to boost their professional knowledge and contribute to a safe work place for themselves and their colleagues.

RMIT is offering professional development and training focussing on the role of leadership and the work team environment in minimising psychosocial risk through the course Managing Psychosocial Risk in April and May, 2011.

Heath & Safety Rep Training

If you are considering becoming a health and safety representative for the School you may like to undertake a 5 day approved training course (paid time off by RMIT). Recommended courses are held with:

Emergency response warden training
This workshop covers everything you need to know to become a Fire Warden at RMIT.

Mental Health First Aid
This training is designed for RMIT staff that may have contact with young people when a psychological condition is first becoming apparent, but it also gives useful information on how to assist a person with a history of mental health problems.

Warden refresher training
This is a refresher for wardens who have completed warden training within the last two years.

First aid CPR refresher
The course provides a refresher of basic CPR and practice of resuscitation skills.

Managing Psychosocial Risk
The program focuses on: (a) the role of leadership and the work team environment in minimising psychosocial risk (such as mental injury compensation claims and counterproductive behaviors); and early intervention and management strategies for at risk individuals (e.g., staff members exhibiting mental health symptoms etc.). The program will also include an evidence-based overview of key occupational mental health issues and early warning signs

QUIT smoking - Bite size seminar
The seminar is useful for anyone who wants information on smoking and quitting.

Incident investigation
This workshop provides the skills and methodology for investigating OHS issues.

Managers and supervisors health and safety responsibilities
This program will explore the OHS roles and responsibilities of managers and supervisors.
