Beyond border control

The Globalism Research Centre is pleased to announce the launch on 18 November of the latest volume of its journal Local-Global.

‘Beyond Border Control: Rethinking asylum and refugee protection in Australia’ will be launched by writer Arnold Zable, and the evening will feature filmed highlights from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre production Journey of Asylum—Waiting.

This volume, edited by Dr Anne McNevin, brings together academic and community voices to explore the potential for a better politics of asylum. What would genuine regional engagement on border control and refugee protection look like? What are the limits of humanitarian principles with respect to asylum seekers and refugees? What new directions are evident in community and activist strategies for change? The volume provides practical and conceptual starting points for genuine alternatives to where we are now.

The journal will be available soon after the launch from Readings Carlton (309 Lygon Street) and RMIT Bookshop (17 Little LaTrobe Street), as well as online from the journal website.
