Building Capacity for a Sustainable Future: An Australian Research Council Linkage Project

The “Sustainability Education” research team at RMIT University is currently involved in a range of projects to identify the most effective means of embedding sustainability curriculum in all undergraduate programs.

We regularly convene higher education communities of practice (CoP) sessions at both the university and state level.

The CoP model allows staff from all disciplines and fields to determine their own level of engagement with sustainability, in a collegial and expansive environment.

The CoP model has been significant in fostering understandings of the ways the sustainability project might reach and enfranchise the wide range of disciplines within university settings.

In addition, a core group of sustainability scholars continues to develop an interest in key graduate attributes for sustainability.

We are building a curriculum model which enables, and privileges, the development of certain capabilities strongly correlated with effective sustainability decision making.
