Research in the School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning

RMIT promotes research that responds to the needs of our time, and is engaged with the broader community.

The School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning engages in research across diverse areas including: applied criminology, international development, international studies, social and political theory, social policy and evaluation, social work theory and practice, urban and environmental policy and planning, and youth work theory and practice.

Researchers in the School also work closely with government, industry and community groups to ensure that research is informed by and useful to a range of stakeholders. Some of the critical questions addressed in the School include:

• the impact of global, regional and international developments on policy development and local practices, especially in the human services, justice and sustainability
• the growing importance of cultural and linguistic diversity as it exists both within and between communities
• the capacity for, and the implications of, government policy interventions in changing social, economic and environmental processes
• the needs to find new ways to maintain and strengthen social connectedness as older forms of community are challenged
