Course Objectives

The objective of the RMIT Ceramics subjects is to train students to be independent
multi-skilled ceramic artists who are able to articulate their ideas and to express
these through the ceramic medium.

Year Level Training Objectives

First year aims to give foundation skills training as well as introducing students to
an understanding of the best of local and international contemporary practice.

Second year emphasises research and materials appreciation and handling skills
development, through a series of assignments, which towards year’s end are
increasingly tailored by the student’s interests and expertise.

Third yearis prefaced by a ‘contract’ in which the student lays out
a clear plan of thematic development linked to their own body of technical expertise.
Students work independently, with regular tutorial supervision from tutors.
