The drawing area has been designed to establish strong perceptual, analytical and conceptual awareness within the area of drawing.
Drawing area offers courses (subjects) in analytical drawing, particularly from the figure, as well as studio methods classes which investigate pragmatic and philosophical issues.
The most significant aspect of the studio area emphasises the development of a personal imagery within a broad interpretation of drawing activity. One indication of this is the study of computer digital imaging as an aspect of the Drawing studio at the first year level.

In first year, the aim is to establish a foundation in the studio of drawing that will serve the student as a basis for the development of personal imagery, specifically within fine art, and within the broader field of visual arts in industry. There is a strong initial emphasis on perceptual analysis.
In the second and third years, students are encouraged to develop a clear personal vision and a sense of their philosophical stance within a contemporary cultural spectrum. This develops through personal research, assisted by lecturers, and an active participation in classes, including individual and group tutorials, talks by visiting artists, gallery visits, etc.
