Art and Communication Techniques
This module aims to develop the student’s understanding of a broad range of design aesthetics, principles and cultures, through concept exploration, media experimentation and the completion of various projects.

Design Studies: Core
The purpose of this module is to provide student’s with the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to identify the basic principles of design, to enhance design literacy and solve simple design problems. Students will also examine design, its function and purpose in an historical and cultural context.

Design Studies: Art and Media
The purpose of this module is to provide students with an option to explore two art and design disciplines through research and development of design concepts and the production of art work. Students will be given the opportunity to select two relevant areas of study from the following: Painting, Printmaking, Graphic Design, Electronic Design, Fashion and Textiles, Advertising.

Illustration
This module aims to provide an overview of illustrative processes and equip students with the specific skills, techniques and knowledge required to successfully undertake a variety of art and design projects.

English
The purpose of the English course is to prepare international students with the oral and written language skills required for academic study at tertiary level.

Multimedia
This subject introduces student to multimedia technologies in a global context. It requires students to integrate text, sound and images using appropriate computer software within a single digital information environment. Students learn production cycles, characteristics of various multimedia elements, authoring and presentation options.

Photography
The purpose of this subject is to provide students with a theoretical and practical introduction to photography. It serves as a foundation for the exploration of possible approaches to photography and advanced skills in the application of photographic and imaging practices.

Assessment
|
|
Continuous assessment by tests, assignments, projects, class attendance and final examinations contribute to the final score for each subject in the Foundation Studies course.
|
|
English and at least three other subjects must be passed before an RMIT Certificate in Foundation Studies is awarded.
