What is RMIT Foundation Studies?
Foundation Studies is an RMIT accredited program offered to international students and recognised for entry to diploma and degree courses by Australian and international higher education institutions.
The content of this stream of study is specifically designed for students who wish to study in the disciplines of either; Art and Design, Multimedia or Architecture, Design and Planning.

Students will develop their literacy and English skills, improve conceptual and analytical skills, and be exposed to acculturation and western academic processes.

Why study at RMIT
Foundation Studies offers students an opportunity to gain a better understanding of Australian lifestyle, teaching styles and assessment which enables successful academic progress. Class sizes are small and teachers offer individual assistance to all students. Students are encouraged to develop study skills and take responsibility for their own learning, which provides a strong base for future success in diploma and degree courses.
All students have access to extensive library services and facilities and computer resource centres which offer the use of personal computers with e-mail and internet access.

RMIT University offers students a full range of support services and programs. A wide variety of clubs and general interest groups allow students to get to know people outside of class and develop new skills. International student support services offer orientation programs, language support, and are able to assist with academic and personal advice.

On completion of this program, students will demonstrate their visual literacy, English skills and improved conceptual and analytical skills. They will have increased confidence, communication and public speaking skills as well as a better understanding of western culture and academic processes. Students will have had opportunities to understand issues relating to teamwork develop practical techniques and see their work in a global and environmental context.

In addition students will be encouraged to take part in extra curricula activities which have been designed to supplement the formal academic requirements of the program and foster the desired graduate capabilities. These activities are also designed to assist students to adjust culturally and integrate into the Australian community. They may include orientation camps, participation in the debating competition, visits to the theatre, art galleries, cinema, or science exhibitions, production of student magazines, attending seminars and mounting exhibitions. All students will undertake some of these activities.

Student surveys indicate strong support for the program. Informal reports indicate that many of our students are the siblings or friends of former students.
