Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute

The Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) is a national research organisation specialising in housing and urban research and policy. AHURI operates research centres at a number of universities around Australia.

The AHURI RMIT-NATSEM Research Centre is based in the School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning in the Design and Social Context Portfolio, RMIT University (Melbourne).

The centre has a multidisciplinary focus and draws on skills from a range of economic, social, environmental and cultural disciplines. Areas of expertise lie in:

  • Housing affordability
  • Labour and housing
  • Homelessness
  • Women and housing
  • Indigenous housing
  • Sustainable housing and urban planning

The researchers have networks that include:

  • Australian and international researchers based in universities, government agencies, NGOs, industry and the private sector
  • Commonwealth, State and local governments
  • Community organisations
  • Private industry and business.

We host visiting researchers and have several research associates.

Researchers receive grants from a number of funding bodies and are widely published
