About

The RMIT Community Advocacy Unit was established in 2000 as a partnership project of the RMIT School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning and The Stegley Foundation. It is financially supported by the Melbourne Community Foundation and aims to facilitate an enhanced and productive partnership between the academic community and the wider community in the pursuit of social justice, democratic accountability and a sustainable environment.

The Community Advocacy Unit designs and delivers educational and training programs on advocacy and social action for members of community groups and non-government organisations. These include workshops on strategic campaign planning, a range of advocacy and social action skill sets and the use of new technologies. The Unit regularly hosts public seminars and conferences on a range of topical social and environmental justice issues. It also supports the design and delivery of accredited undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum on advocacy and social action at RMIT University.

The Community Advocacy Unit is part of the RMIT School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning. It reports annually to the Melbourne Community Foundation. Financial operations meet RMIT University's provisions for control and auditing.
