About International Development

Over a billion people live in absolute poverty. This means over a billion people do not have sufficient food to eat each day, have no access to clean water or sanitation and are denied fundamental human rights. They are denied agency, freedom of expression and union through structural injustices.

The Master of Social Science (International Development) addresses these issues of international development and provides students an opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge to assist in making the world a better and just place. The program aims to:

  • improve knowledge and understanding of developing countries by considering the issues and challenges that confront them, and processes that operate within them in an era of globalisation; and
  • improve specific professional skills, such as those required to write successful tenders, manage programs, evaluate policies and projects and work with local communities.

The program is designed to provide development professionals and those wishing to embark on a career in international development with the skills and knowledge they need to work in a complex and changing environment.
