About Social Science

Want to work with people? Are you passionate about social justice? For 2400 years people in the West have struggled find answers to questions like: What is justice? What is the good life? What can we know reliably? The Bachelor of Social Science program is RMIT’s way of addressing these fundamental ethical and intellectual issues in a new approach to teaching and learning that is contemporary, practical and relevant to a globalising world.

The Social Science program draws on traditional disciplines like sociology, history, political science, philosophy, organisational and policy studies and research methods taught in exciting and challenging ways. Our young enthusiastic teachers show you how to read, think and write well. The program will especially appeal to you if you want to promote a more just society and global order while getting rewarding and challenging work in a variety of government, community and business organisations. This is a degree that gives you:

• critical insights and key professional abilities that are in high demand from modern employers, and
• practical industry experience each year equipping you with job-ready skills, giving you a head start in the queue of people who want to start work immediately after graduation.

At RMIT you won’t have to do three years of a general social science or arts degree and then several more years on a postgraduate degree before you can get a job. Our industry internships equip you to work effectively in a range of modern organisational teams, managing change, and applying technology, developing policies or doing social marketing.
