Programs offered

The School offers Masters by Research and Doctor of Philosophy programs in the social sciences. We have an active student research community with currently over 140 students enrolled in our research programs, focusing on issues such as:

  • Evaluating the sustainability performance of urban fringe development
  • Social Impact Assessment in China
  • The Meaning of Reconciliation in Contemporary Australia
  • Re-imagining the Suburb: Design Aspects
  • Museums, communities and participatory practices: outreach, in-reach and museums’ quests for social relevance
  • Pre-empting conflict: the capacity of the United Nations system to maintain international order through early warning – the case of Macedonia
  • The adjustment of skilled and business immigrants in Australia
  • Identity and presence in cyber relationships
  • Nationhood and subjective identity: Muslim women in France and Australia

The School aims to foster an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment for postgraduate research students. We convene two Research Days annually to enable students and staff to present their research in progress and facilitate cross disciplinary links.
