Permanent accommodation

RMIT provides a housing advisory service, housing database and arrival services to help international students find permanent accommodation. RMIT University is situated in the centre of the city and does not offer on-campus accommodation however you can choose from many accommodation options near each campus.

Accommodation options

Most RMIT students (Australian and international) choose one of these options (costs are an indication only):

  • rent or share an apartment, flat or house for 12 months. Costs include rent, food, telephone calls, gas, and/or electricity. You may need to buy furniture and other household goods. A bond will usually be paid before you move in.
    Weekly rent: Flat/Apartment: one bedroom – A$120-A$250
    Flat/Apartment: two bedroom – A$170 - A$350
    House: allow A$80 - A$150 per person

When you share a flat, apartment or house everyone shares the kitchen, bathroom,laundry and living rooms. You have your own bedroom.

  • live in a private hostel where you will have your own furnished bedroom, and share bathroom and living areas. Some hostels provide meals and others provide kitchen facilities. Computer facilities may be available.
    Accommodation can be for three, six or 12 months and payment of a bond may be required.
    Weekly rent: A$150 – A$300

  • live with an Australian family (Homestay) and you will have your own bedroom and share living spaces with your Homestay family. Meals are included but you will pay for your telephone calls and travel expenses. English language students can arrange Homestay before arrival. Other students arrange Homestay after arrival.
    Weekly rent: A$170 – A$225

As RMIT University is situated in the centre of the city we do not offer on-campus accommodation however there are many accommodation choices near each campus.
