English Equivalency Information

Please note that the information below is only a guide and a final assessment will be made upon receiving your application.

Please note:

• REW programs are recognised in the same way as IELTS or TOEFL for the purposes of entry into RMIT programs.
• IELTS (General Training) results will not be accepted into RMIT programs.
• For entry into RMIT academic programs IELTS or TOEFL scores will be accepted as valid if the test was taken within 24 months of the proposed date of commencement of study.
• For entry into RMIT academic programs REW certificates are valid for 12 months.
• For entry into REW programs IELTS or TOEFL scores wil be accepted as valid if the test was taken within 12 months of the proposed date of commencement of study.
• RMIT English Worldwide Quick Placement Test (QPT) score is valid for 6 months.

English requirement MAY be waived for

1. Students who have within the past 12 months successfully completed the final two years of secondary studies in an approved secondary school with English as the language of teaching and assessment, and have gained a satisfactory pass in an approved final-year English subject.
2. Students who have successfully completed secondary studies in a country where English is the language of teaching and assessment and have gained a satisfactory pass in an approved final-year English subject, unless a higher requirement is specified by the program. [*Note: This may be dependent on the English entry requirement of the former program] (Applicants from countries with more than one official language may be required to meet IELTS or TOEFL requirements)
3. Students who have completed their Secondary School studies in an International School within the past 12 months, where medium of instruction is English.
4. Students who have successfully completed an appropriate RMIT Foundation Studies program, or equivalent.
5. Students who have successfully completed, where English is the language of teaching and assessment (this may need to be supported by written confirmation from the institution), either:

• at least the equivalent of one year of a university degree within the past two years
  OR
• at least the equivalent of a two year tertiary program within the past five years (completion of the equivalent of an AQF Level 5 program is regarded as meeting this requirement)

Where applicants have more than one of the achievements, only the most recent achievement will be considered in the entry decision.
