RMIT University will be hosting its very first Black Box Innovation Challenge.
The SAMME Black Box Innovation Challenge is a Competition that provides a platform for Students to present their solutions to a range of design problems. Each team is required to design, construct and operate a prototype meeting the requirements of an annually determined problem statement. The Competition showcases the extraordinary talents and engineering sense of students while encouraging them to develop innovative ideas towards an improved quality of life for all.

Each year, in the last Friday of November, several teams of up to four students compete at Cafeteria, Building 251, Bundoora East Campus. The following prizes and awards are presented to winners:
Each student team will be required to construct a “mystery” device which will be introduced at the time of competition. Each team will receive a box including a common task and instruction sheet, and the required materials to build a device of their own design. Each team will have three hours to make their device ready to compete. This time includes: design, build, test and optimization. The competition will begin afterward in order of team numbers (which will be assigned randomly). Each team will have three chances to demonstrate their device. The best record will be considered for competition. The organizers may hold elimination rounds prior to November 25, in which case entrants will be notified prior to the round. The Black Box is open to all undergraduate University student teams irrespective of School or University.
