ResearchThe soft condensed matter physics group at RMIT has research interests in a number of areas of fundamental physics, biophysics, nanoscience and nanotechnology, and light scattering.
Our research ranges from the pure (fundamentals of phase transitions) to the applied (interpretation of remote sensing measurements for determination of inland water quality). Our main research areas are:
Associate Professor Gary Bryant
Interests: Colloidal crystallization and vitrification, Light scattering techniques, Phase transitions, Effects of shear of freezing, Phase behaviour of colloidal and molecular fluids, Cryobiology, Membrane phase transitions, Protein-ligand interactions, Small angle Neutron and X-ray scattering.
Emeritus Professor Bill van Megen
Interests: Condensed matter physics, preparation of particles with novel optical properties, particle characterisation, particle dynamics of concentrated colloidal suspensions, kinetics of crystallisation in one and two component colloidal systems of hard spheres, the glass transition and glassy states of matter.
