The Microelectronic and Materials Technology Centre (MMTC) at RMIT University is one of Australia’s leading research centres specialising in micro- and nano-fabrication technologies. It has comprehensive facilities for the design and modelling, fabrication, packaging, and characterisation of micro- and nano-scale devices; enabling researchers to transform ideas into accessible technology.
The MMTC was established in 1982 as a Commonwealth Government funded Centre of Excellence, and has evolved from a focus on microelectronics to research in photonics for defence technologies and is now a versatile hub for multidisciplinary scientific research, enabling collaboration across a number of Australian and international research institutions. It serves as an infrastructure and research node of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Ultrahigh bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS, CUDOS@RMIT) and the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication (MCN).
The MMTC research focus areas include the fields of integrated optics, lab-on-a-chip devices, nanotechnology enabled devices, sensors, functional materials, icrosystems, microelectronic devices, and RF/microwave technologies.
The Centre supports the activities of 7 academic staff, 5 research fellows, and more than 30 Ph.D. scholars within the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering providing key infrastructure and laboratories to several major research groups within the school, including:
Director, Microelectronics and Materials Technology Centre & Deputy Head (Research)
