About Pharmaceutical Sciences
Turnover in the Australian pharmaceutical industry has more than tripled over the past 10 years. It is a rapidly expanding area and requires an increasing number of graduates to work in areas such as drug design and development, human clinical trials and drug regulations.
The Discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences focuses on a variety of aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, including research and development of drugs, toxicity testing of drugs for safety purposes, clinical (human) trials of drugs and pharmaceutical products; drug regulations and associated ethics related to the approval of drugs for public use; and sales and marketing of drugs and pharmaceutical products.
At RMIT University, Pharmaceutical Sciences supports:
- Undergraduate teaching in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Pharmaceutical Sciences), Bachelor of Applied Science (Biomedical Science) programs, and to a lesser degree in all other undergraduate programs in the School of Medical Sciences, and in the Chinese Medicine, Osteopathy, Chiropractic and Nursing programs
- Postgraduate coursework teaching in the Master of Applied Science (Toxicology) program
- Research supervision in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biomedical Science Honours programs
- Research supervision in the School of Medical Sciences Masters and PhD research programs
- Research activities in Applied and nutritional toxicology, Diabetes and metabolic syndrome, Cardiovascular and smooth muscle pharmacology, Neuroscience, Natural products, Immunotoxicology
