About the School of Computer Science and Information TechnologySince our establishment as a Department in 1980, the School of Computer Science and Information Technology has evolved to being dedicated to the highest standards of education, research and community outreach. We are one of the largest Computer Science and Information Technology schools in Australia with around 80 academic, technical and administrative staff. We presently cater for approximately 1800 students, including more than 850 international students, with over 70 students undertaking research degrees at Doctorate (PhD) and Master levels. Our School has a strong tradition of 'hands-on' teaching, providing students with the opportunity to mix course content and practical experience. This approach, coupled with our close involvement with industry, produces graduates who are highly regarded in the workplace. Our graduates are traditionally employed as computing professionals in fields such as commerce, business, scientific research, engineering and government. We have a wide range of programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition, our School is one of the largest providers of online and distance learning in Australia, through our affiliation with Open Universities Australia.
