Remote Dial-in Service

Telephone handsetThe RMIT Remote Dial-in Service (RDS) enables staff and students to login into the RMIT nework while off campus. RDS requires a dial-in modem. For more information contact the IT Helpdesk.

RDS is provided to undergraduates, postgraduates and staff registered on the Novell Directory Service (NDS). Sessions are restricted to two hours maximum and the modems are available for dial-in, 24 hours a day, seven days a week excluding scheduled maintenance (see Scheduled IT Downtimes). Activities within the RMIT domain (rmit.edu.au addresses) are available to registrants. These activities include but are not limited to:

  • Checking GroupWise/Student EMS
  • Browsing the RMIT web site
  • Browsing the RMIT library catalogue
  • Downloading software from ITS software download page
  • Transfer files to / from RMIT Unix systems including file transfers (i.e. FTP).
